For this activity, I divide the class into two groups: the employers and the job seekers. The employers group should be 2 to 3 times the size of the job seekers group. I then further divide the employers into groups of 2 to 3 students, and have them sit in a circle at their desks around the room facing inward. Each group of employers is given a job description. They have 5-10 minutes to read the description and come up with questions to ask the job seekers.
The job seekers then go around individually to the different employers and interview for the various jobs. They stay at each station for 5-7 minutes. After each job seeker has visited all the employees, the employees then get to choose who they would like to hire. They announce their choices to the class. The chosen job seeker can either accept or deny the position. If they do accept, then we have a match! They can not accept more than one position.
Below is a document containing the various job descriptions we used.
I use the following activity with my 1 and 2 of ESO students. The powerpoint below consists of images of various individuals. For each image, I ask the students to first describe what they see. They tell me what the individual looks like and what he or she is wearing. I then ask them to create a personality and a life for the person. Based on what they see in the picture, they tell me what kind of person he or she is. They give the individual a name, tell me where he or she is from, and create a story about what the person is doing. The students really enjoy using their imaginations to come up with the descriptions.
Below is a powerpoint that contains various advertisements. I first show an advertisement where the brand or organization's name has been removed. The students have 10 minutes to discuss in groups of 3 to 4 students what they think the advertisement is for. Each group must then share their conclusions. They must first tell what they see. Then, they tell what they think the advertisement is for and why they think this. Finally, they share their opinion on the advertisement. All of the groups tell the class what they think before the truth is revealed. I have used this activity with a 2 of ESO class.
